Technical difficulties plague Manatee School Board meeting on the reopening of schools

Technical difficulties have plagued the school board’s long-awaited meeting on the reopening of schools in August.

The School Board of Manatee County began its meeting at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, and the online stream repeatedly crashed for the next hour, making it hard for viewers to follow more than a few sentences.

It seems the difficulties affected viewers on all digital platforms, whether it be the Manatee Schools Television website or the broadcast on Apple and Roku devices. Other viewers were able to watch the meeting on cable television.

“We are experiencing technical difficulties with the live stream,” the district said on its website. “We are working on the issue. We are still broadcasting on Spectrum 646 and Frontier 39. The video will be posted to Vimeo after the meeting ends.”

Charlie Kennedy, the board’s vice chair, acknowledged the issues during Tuesday’s board meeting, citing “traffic issues” just before the stream was again interrupted. Superintendent Cynthia Saunders said she received similar concerns.

The meeting lasted about two hours, with issues persisting throughout the online stream. A recording was then uploaded to www.vimeo.com/manateeschools.
