Manatee County School Board member Dave Miner files for re-election

Dave Miner, a member of the Manatee County School Board since 2012, has filed for re-election.

After outpacing Misty Servia by fewer than 2,000 votes in November 2016, Miner hopes to again defend his District 3 seat on the school board. He filed for re-election on Thursday.

Miner faces three opponents in the primary election on Aug. 18. If no candidate wins a majority of the vote, there will be a runoff on Nov. 3.

“It’s good to have someone with my experience for helping to deal with problems, and I’m going to do my best to continue our efforts to make Manatee School District the best in the state,” he said.

Miner is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a longtime Bradenton attorney. His office neighbors a CVS and a Publix in Bradenton, off Manatee Avenue West.

He earned a law degree from the University of Detroit Law School and a bachelor of arts degree from Amherst College, according to his biography on the district website.

Miner served as the school board’s chairman from November 2018 to 2019. In past years, he chaired the Manatee County Cable Television Advisory Board, the Manatee Bar Association’s Constitution Essay Contest and the Christian Education Committee at his church.

He previously served as president of Manatee Children’s Services, the Anna Maria Island Kiwanis Club and the alumni association for Amherst College of Southwest Florida, his bio continues.

Miner also has experience as a school advisory council member at Manatee High School and King Middle School, and as a link between the school board, the Florida School Board Association and the Central Florida School Board Coalition.

The other candidates include Shaun Lehoe, a full-time father; Scott Boyes, a former principal and teacher; and Mary Foreman, a certified public accountant and chair of the school district’s Audit Committee.
