Manatee Libraries announces free online tutoring. Here’s how to get started
Local students now have access to thousands of online tutors through the Manatee County library system.
Manatee Libraries announced a partnership with Tutor.com, which provides live homework help and test preparation to students in kindergarten through 12th grade, along with early college students and adult learners, according to a news release.
“Students can get feedback on essays, book reports, short stories and college/scholarship application essays within 24 hours,” the release states. “Adults can get feedback on resumes and cover letters.”
The service, offered in both English and Spanish, is free to anyone with a library card. County libraries are closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, but residents can apply for a temporary digital card on the Manatee Libraries website.
To access the service, visit mymanatee.org/library, navigate to the “Research & Learning” tab, click on “Tutorials & Practice Tests” and then click on “Tutor.com.”
At the direction of state Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran, local students transitioned to online classes last week, and schools throughout Florida will continue virtual learning until April 15, at the earliest.
Manatee Libraries partnered with Tutor.com to help with the transition, according to a prepared statement from Cathy Laird, the interim library services manager.
“We are excited to make this service available to our customers, especially students who are adjusting to learning in a non-traditional classroom environment,” she said. “While we have Lynda and other online tutorials and test help, tutor.com provides direct, real-time help.”
Thousands of tutors are available to help with more than 60 subjects from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Each tutor received an extensive background check, and each is an expert in his or her subject area, according to the news release.
Tutor.com also has videos and other 24/7 resources, including math and English lessons, writing assistance and help with Advanced Placement courses.
