New College of Florida named one of state’s top four-year schools
New College of Florida recently was named one of the top 10 four-year colleges in the state, according to schools.com.
The website ranked the best four-year colleges in Florida, with the Sarasota-based New College of Florida ranking sixth in the elite group.
While noting that it’s not the place to earn online degrees, schools.com said the Sarasota public liberal arts school, “takes an innovative approach to education.”
It also hails the school’s average net price as “the most affordable in the state,” noting that New College of Florida also ranks third in the state for grant aid, when calculated as a percentage of tuition and fees.
The top 10 schools were, in order:
- University of Florida
- University of South Florida, Tampa
- Florida International University
- University of West Florida
- University of Central Florida
- New College of Florida
- Florida Atlantic University
- University of North Florida
- Florida State University
- University of South Florida, St. Petersburg
The University of Florida was also named by schools.com as the fifth-best school in the nation for 2017.
To get their list, schools.com ranked 1,649 four-year colleges and universities in the U.S., scoring each school on a 100-point scale, using the most recent data available from government sources. Data points included in-state tuition and fees for full-time undergraduate students, median debt of graduates, number of degree and certificate programs offered including distance education, graduation rates within six years and several other criteria.
