The State College of Florida Sarasota-Manatee was recognized for the second consecutive year as a Healthy Business Certified Leader by Health Links, an organization focused on encouraging workplace health.

The designation means SCF encourages its employees to be healthy.

“SCF believes that our employees are our most valuable resource and are vital to our success,” said Tracy Moore, the school’s benefits coordinator. “By giving employees an outlet for wellness at work we are saying ‘We care about you, your health and well being.’ ”

The college offers on-site exercise classes, fitness challenges and Weight Watchers at work, and partners with gyms to provide discounts to SCF employees and their family members.

Six other organizations in Manatee have been classified as Healthy Business Certified Leader, including Manatee County government, the Manatee County School District, Blake Medical Center, FCCI Insurance Group and Tidewell Hospice, according to a press release from SCF.

Health Links designates the certification based on an assessment the company has developed. The assessment is similar to the work site health scorecard designed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the healthy workplace framework developed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
