Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance luncheon will focus on economic impact of childhood reading
The Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance is hosting a luncheon next week on the economic implications of students reading proficiently by third grade.
Debra Jacobs, the president and CEO of The Patterson Foundation, will present statistics, discuss future implications and describe some current tactics being used in the area.
A press release from the organization promoting the event highlighted the economic disparity between students in Manatee’s schools.
“We wake up each day in paradise with a vibrant economy,” the press release stated. “Yet the realities for segments of our region are dismal.”
The FSA test results released in May revealed that half of the third grade students in Manatee do not read at at grade level.
The event will take place from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club. The cost is $25 for Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance members and $35 for non-members.
Register for the event online at http://www.lwrba.org/event-2495134 or call 941-757-1664.
