Michael Van Hoven, the former secondary principal at Bradenton Christian School, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence in May, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Bradenton Christian superintendent Dan Vande Pol said Van Hoven, who had worked at the school for 21 years, resigned his position the day after the arrest, and the school is currently looking for a new secondary principal.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike and with his family,” Vande Pol said. “We haven’t close the door to his possible return to BCS in the future. There are a lot of sad folks at BCS but we will move forward.”

According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, Van Hoven was arrested and charged with a DUI on May 20 at 5700 Manatee Ave. W. The officer’s report stated that Van Hoven was driving erratically, attempting to pass a car in the bike lane on Manatee Avenue shortly after 10 p.m.

When the officer pulled him over, Van Hoven fell out of his car and was unable to complete the field sobriety test, according to the report.

The arrest report stated that Van Hoven blew a .208 on the blood alcohol test, which is more than double the legal limit of .08.
