Haile Middle School students have been learning about the Holocaust through studying “The Diary of Anne Frank.”

Last week, they got to hear from a Holocaust survivor who was imprisoned at the same concentration camp where Frank died of Typhus.

Rifka Glatz survived the Nazi invasion of Hungary in 1943 and imprisonment in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. She described her time at the camp to Haile students, showing them pictures of the camp after its liberation, and she told them about her father, who was killed at a forced-labor camp.

The students presented Glatz with a plaque reading, “Thanks to you we will never forget.”

The presentation was arranged by The Jewish Federation of Sarasota and Haile’s eighth-grade English teachers.
