After five full days of school, the Manatee County School District has 522 more students than the same time last year.

A total of 47,953 students were in Manatee schools on Tuesday, the fifth day of school. That’s 522 more than were in Manatee schools on the fifth day of school last year. Overall, the district is predicting to grow by about 850 students this year, according to district expectations laid out on the first day of school.

The district will do another count of students after 10 days of school. Using those numbers, the district may move teachers from schools with lower enrollments to schools with higher enrollments to state within state-mandated class sizes.

The district has shown steady increases in the number of students on both the five-day counts and the 10-day counts for the last few years.

The table below compares five-day counts
