Facts, figures in advance of the first day of school
With Manatee County students headed back to school on Monday, the Manatee County School District released some "fun facts" in advance of the 2015-16 school year.
Check some of the interesting figures below:
48,000 students are expected to head to school Monday
64 total schools will open Monday -- 51 traditional (33 elementary, 11 middle, 7 high), 12 charters and Manatee Technical College
6,100 total employees will be ready to greet the new kids
1,000 new students are expected to join the county
5 new principals will start on Monday, three of them are first time Manatee County principals
216 buses will carry 16,000 students a day, traveling 20,000 miles and using 4,000 gallons of fuel
15,000 breakfasts and 30,000 lunches are served daily. Officials expect breakfast numbers to go up this year.
The real question: How many of those 48,000 students will cry as they say goodbye to summer on the first day? And how many parents will celebrate?
