Manatee School board candidate gets interview with Governor

John Colon posted a photo on his Facebook page with the governor and a caption that said he was interviewing for the seat.

Colon is one of more than 20 community members applying for the seat. Cantrell, who died in July, was elected to the seat last year. Colon is currently a member of the State Board of Education.

The Department of Education, under Commissioner Pam Stewart, is heading up the search. The department has not yet passed along a list of finalists, DOE officials confirmed Tuesday.

There's no set timetable for the governor to appoint a new school board member, but district officials and other board members are hoping to have a new board member by the end of the month.
