Sarasota police investigating death after man’s body found

Officers with the Sarasota Police Department are investigating a death that occurred in the 1700 block of East Avenue in Sarasota.

Two men walking along a ditch Wednesday evening in the area found the body of a man and called 911 at approximately 7 p.m., according to Sarasota police spokeswoman Genevieve Judge. Police said it’s unknown how long the man has been deceased.

There are no known witnesses at this time, and officers Wednesday evening were waiting for the medical examiner to arrive on scene, according to a news release. An autopsy will be conducted by the medical examiner to determine the cause of death.

Police said that it’s unknown at this time if foul play is suspected. No further information was provided.
