A Sarasota man was sentenced to more than 11 years prison after pleading guilty to driving drunk, running a redlight and killing a motorcyclist.

Ethan McDermed, 23, pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter as part of a plea agreement on Thursday in the death of Shawn Conley.

In May 2015, Conley was killed when McDermed, who was driving a 1998 Ford Pickup south on Orange Avenue, ran the red light at the intersection with Mound Street in Sarasota. Four hours after the crash, McDermed’s legal blood alcohol level was 0.151.

McDermed was previously released from prison in 2014 after serving time for convictions of burglary of an occupied dwelling, grand theft auto and willfully eluding or fleeing from law enforcement.
