Seven of 15 suspects in major heroin bust bond out in Manatee County; 2 take 15-year prison plea deals
Of the 15 suspects in Manatee County facing drug charges, including trafficking in heroin or conspiracy to traffic in heroin, as part of an 18-month multi-agency investigation, seven are out of jail as they await trial.
Two others are serving 15-year prison sentences after taking plea deals.
The remaining six defendants are being held in the Manatee County jail as they await trial.
The 15 arrests:
Adrian Celestino, 44, Bradenton, originally from Mexico and pending deportation: conspiracy to traffic in heroin 14 to 28 grams.
Brentton Edwards Woods, 30, Bradenton: trafficking in heroin 4 to 14, conspiracy to traffic in heroin 28 to 30 grams, possession of marijuana.
Brian Deon Parker, 26, Palmetto: conspiracy to traffic in heroin 28 to 30 grams.
Cedric Houston, 33, Bradenton: conspiracy to traffic in heroin 4 to 14 grams, trafficking in heroin 28 to 30 grams, possession of cocaine with intent to sell, four counts sale of heroin, three counts possession of heroin with intent to sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a church.
Cody Lambert, 25, Port Richey: conspiracy to traffic in heroin 4 to 14 grams, trafficking in heroin 4 to 14 grams.
Deketrick Samuel, 27, Bradenton: trafficking in heroin 28 to 30 grams, trafficking in cocaine 28 to 200 grams.
Gregory Parker, 50, Bradenton: conspiracy to traffic in hydromorphone 28 grams or more.
Jonathan Cosme Torres, 29, Orlando: trafficking in heroin 28 to 30 grams.
Josue Cosme Torres, 32, of Orlando: trafficking in heroin 28 to 30 grams.
Jose Isaula Castillo, 33, Bradenton: conspiracy to traffic in cocaine 400 grams to 150 kilograms, conspiracy to traffic in heroin 28 to 30 grams, trafficking in cocaine 400 grams to 150 kilograms, trafficking in heroin 28 to 30 grams.
Kashema Williams, 39, of Bradenton: conspiracy to traffic in hydromorphone 28 grams or more.
Michael Brooks, 34, Bradenton: conspiracy to traffic in heroin 28 to 30 grams.
Robert Haynes, 30, Bradenton: conspiracy to traffic in heroin 28 to 30 grams.
Shadaryl Swilley, 29, Bradenton: trafficking in heroin 28 to 30 grams, trafficking in cocaine 28 to 200 grams.
Will Reaves, 44, Bradenton: conspiracy to traffic in hydromorphone 20 grams or more, trafficking in hydromorphone 28 grams or more.
The investigation began in September 2014 as overdoses began to spiral out of control because heroin was being cut with fentanyl. Recentl,y heroin overdoses have begun to spike again — heroin is still being cut with fentanyl and mostly recently with carfentanil — a synthetic form of fentanyl 100 times more potent than fentanyl and 10,000 times more potent than morphine.
Houston was believed to be the top dealer in Manatee County. Houston is now being held without bond at the Manatee County jail awaiting trial scheduled during a two-week period beginning Oct. 31.
Woods, Castillo, Celestino and Brooks also remain in custody at the Manatee County jail awaiting trials. Only Woods has been given a trial date scheduled during the two-week period beginning Nov. 28. The others are set to appear in court next Aug. 17 for a case management hearing where a trial date could be set.
On April 13, Josue Cosme Torres took a deal and pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of trafficking in heroin, 14 to 28 grams, and conspiracy to traffic in heroin, 14 to 28 grams. He was given a mandatory 15-year prison prison sentence.
On June 10, Jonathan Cosme Torres made took an identical deal, pleading guilty to the lesser charges of trafficking in heroin, 14 to 28 grams, and conspiracy to traffic in heroin, 14 to 28 grams. He was also sentenced to 15 years prison as part of the plea agreement.
A mandatory $100,000 fine in addition to court costs and the cost of prosecution was also imposed against both men.
