Sarasota man sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexual battery and robbery
A man was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison for sexual battery and robbery in connection with a February 2015 case, according to the Sarasota Police Department.
On May 20, 2015, Herbert Stilley III, then 27, was arrested in the 2100 block of Dixie Avenue in Sarasota on charges of felony armed home invasion and felony armed sexual battery at a victim’s home Feb. 10, 2015.
The victim reportedly told officers she was at home when Stilley entered, pointed a firearm at her face and demanded her phone. Her husband was outside at the time.
Stilley demanded: “Where is the money?”
Police said the victim and her husband are deaf but can read lips. The couple’s children were asleep in a nearby bedroom, according to the release.
In fear for family’s safety, the victim took Stilley to her bedroom, have him her purse and then was sexually battered. Stilley then ran out of the bedroom and was chased out of the home by the victim’s husband.
On April 29, police said Stilley was found guilty on charges of sexual battery and robbery.
