Sarasota police ID victim in suspicious death case

The identity of the victim in a suspicious death that remains under investigation has been released by the Sarasota Police Department.

Police on Tuesday identified Allecia Veal, 20, of Sarasota, as the victim of a suspicious death that occurred in the 800 block of Mecca Drive at about 10 p.m. Saturday. Police had not previously identified Veal because her next of kin had not been identified.

Detectives are continuing to investigate Veal’s death.

The incident is believed to be isolated, and detectives do not believe there is any threat to the community, police said.
