A Bradenton man identified as Brandon A. Jorquera, 29, of the 900 block of Sixth Avenue West, Bradenton, was named Wednesday by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office as the man who barricaded himself inside a home for six hours Tuesday in the 4900 block of Silk Oak Drive in Sarasota.
Preliminary investigation indicates Jorquera's death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a Wednesday report.
Deputies first made contact with Jorquera at approximately 11:32 a.m. Tuesday at 4943 Silk Oak Drive, while serving arrest warrants for contempt of court for dangerous drugs out of Manatee County and failure to appear for driving with license suspended out of Sarasota County.
As they approached the front door, Jorquera pointed a gun at deputies and declared he wouldn't go back to jail. The SCSO SWAT team attempted to bring Jorquera safely outside the residence.
After more than six hours, SWAT members breached the front door of the residence and found Jorquera deceased inside.
Jorquera is a convicted felon with an extensive criminal history in Utah, Indiana and Florida.
In Polk, Manatee and Sarasota counties, Jorquera has a combined 34 priors, including 14 felony and 20 misdemeanor charges. His arrests have included aggravated assault, domestic battery, throwing a deadly missile into a dwelling, possession of a concealed handcuff key while in custody, manufacturing a controlled substance, and several more.
The investigation is ongoing.
