Palmetto man charged with possession of marijuana ‘roach’ after fleeing from police stop

A Palmetto man was charged with possession of a marijuana “roach” after leading officers on a chase, according to a Bradenton Police Department report.

Ladarius Lamar Brown, 20, was arrested at 7:52 p.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of 21st Street East, Bradenton. Police reportedly tried to stop a vehicle in the 1500 block of 21st Street East after the front-seat passenger threw garbage onto the roadway. The driver began to flee driving recklessly, according to BPD.

Police followed the vehicle until it stopped and multiple passengers ran, according to the report. Brown, believed to have been the front-seat passenger, ran and climbed an 8-foot chain link fence in an escape attempt.

Police arrested Brown and charged him with obstruction for fleeing from the stop. Police returned to the vehicle and found a small marijuana “roach,” or stub of a marijuana smoke, in the ashtray, according to the report. The other vehicle occupants were not found, police said.

Brown was charged with possession of marijuana and resisting an officer without violence, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. He was released Thursday from Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $1,000.
