Authorities believe North Port rabbit intentionally set ablaze

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is seeking information related to a rabbit discovered in North Port that may have been lit on fire.

According to a release, animal services officers were called around 2 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 12000 block of Loranza Avenue after a resident spotted the injured rabbit. The animal was transported to a rehabilitation clinic in Venice where a veterinarian indicated its injuries may have been intentional. Investigators reportedly believe the white rabbit suffered the injuries within the last week.

The animal is expected to survive, according to the release.
