A 23-year-old man was charged with robbing his ex-girlfriend of money he had given her for a car payment, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

About 10:53 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to an abandoned 911 call from the 3800 block of 18th Avenue West, Bradenton, that resulted in a domestic situation, according to a news release.

The former boyfriend, Joshua A. Vanslyke, had demanded the woman return the money, and when she refused, Vanslyke grabbed her purse, breaking the strap and ripping the saddle flap that held the money, according to the report.

Vanslyke removed the money and left the area.

Shortly after, a deputy saw Vanslyke walking on 18th Street West toward Cortez Road and after the woman identified him, he was arrested, according to the sheriff’s office.

Vanslyke, who is charged with robbery by sudden snatching, is being held without bond at the Manatee County jail.
