Bradenton man facing more charges in child rape, molestation case
MANATEE -- A Bradenton man is facing additional charges in the child rape and molestation case pending against him.
Michael Ready, 43, was arrested April 16, 2015, and charged with one count of lewd and lascivious molestation on a child between the ages of 12 and 18 years old. His arrest prompted other victims -- already adults -- to come forward with additional allegations.
On Wednesday, the State Attorney's Office filed additional charges in one of three cases against Ready. His new charges are:
Two counts of sexual battery on a victim 12 to 18 years old.
Soliciting a sexual battery act on a victim less than 18 years old.
Three counts of molesting a victim less than 12 years by an adult.
Ready is being held at the Manatee County jail on bonds totaling $2.25 million. He is set to stand trial on all three cases during a two-week period starting Nov. 28.
He refused to appear before Circuit Judge Hunter Carroll for his first appearance hearing Wednesday afternoon. Carroll let the bonds stay as set and appointed the Public Defender's Office to represent him.
Ready was already charged with:
Three counts of sexual battery on a victim 12 to 18 years old of age.
Three counts of lewd and lascivious molestation on a victim 12 to 16 years old by an adult.
Delivery of a controlled substance to a minor.
Sexual battery of a victim less than 12 years old by adult.
All three victims were known to Ready. The older victims told investigators last year they never disclosed the abuse to anyone because Ready told them no one would believe them.
Ready's criminal history includes a grand-theft conviction from Sarasota for which he served nearly three years in prison and was released in December 2011. He previously was released from prison in November 2005 after serving more than six years for convictions for trafficking in amphetamines and resisting arrest with violence.
