Sarasota man cited for careless driving after truck catches fire on Interstate 75
SARASOTA -- A Sarasota man was cited for careless driving after he crashed his truck on Interstate 75 on Tuesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Edilberto Armas Caceres, 55, was cited after losing control of his vehicle, causing it to overturn onto its right side and lose its cargo. The incident happened at 8:09 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 75 southbound at mile marker 209. According to a release, Caceres was traveling southbound in the center lane of I-75 south of Fruitville Road when he told troopers that he proceeded to change lanes from the center lane to the right lane as another vehicle was overtaking on the right side.
According to troopers, Caceres tried to change lanes back into the center lane and overcorrected, losing control of the vehicle. As a result, Caceres' vehicle overturned onto its right side, losing its cargo in the right lane and west shoulder. The vehicle caught on fire after Caceres escaped from the cab, according to the release.
No injuries were reported, according to FHP.
