Sarasota man charged with cocaine possession after hit and run in Bradenton

BRADENTON -- A Sarasota man was charged with possession of cocaine after a hit-and-run crash, according to the Bradenton Police Department.

Edwin Parris-Frett, 29, was arrested at 3:43 a.m. Saturday in the 2700 block of First Street West. At 3:16 a.m., an officer on patrol in the 1200 block of First Street West was advised by a passerby that a silver Ford Taurus that just pulled into the gas station was involved in a hit-and-run, according to a report. Police were also advised by BPD dispatch that the Palmetto Police Department was also looking for the vehicle.

According to the report, police tried to catch up to the vehicle but its driver began to drive erratically. A traffic stop was conducted in the 2700 block of First Street West and police made contact with Parris-Frett, the sole occupant of the vehicle. Police asked him if he was involved in a car accident and he said yes.

As Parris-Frett began to exit the vehicle, he moved the front driver seat back and the officer said in plain view was a clear plastic bag with small white rocks inside that tested positive for cocaine.

Parris-Frett was charged with possession of cocaine and was released the same day from Manatee County jail on $1,500 bond, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office website.
