Motorcyclist arrested in Sarasota County after fleeing deputies at more than 100 mph
SARASOTA -- The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Thursday arrested a motorcyclist after he fled from deputies at speeds more than 100 mph.
Deputies were made aware of the reckless motorcyclist in March after reports were made by drivers on River Road in south Sarasota County, according to the sheriff's office.
According to witnesses, every morning at the same time, the driver would illegally pass and weave in and out of traffic at deadly speeds on the two-lane road. Early Thursday morning, traffic and aviation deputies used surveillance to follow the driver from River Road to Interstate 75 and Fruitville Road in Sarasota.
Deputies tried to stop the driver, however, he continued to flee from marked vehicles.
Sergey Baygulov, 20, of North Port, was charged with felony fleeing to elude, and misdemeanor failure to register motor vehicle, and attached tag not assigned. His speed was measured by radar at 92 mph in a 45-mph zone.
Baygulov made a complete stop in front of his place of employment and was arrested there. His motorcycle was seized and is pending forfeiture, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
He is being held on $7,740 bond at Sarasota County jail. The investigation continues.
