Miami man charged with grand theft, ID fraud at Manatee County Bank of America
MANATEE -- A Miami man was charged with the criminal use of personal identification information after video surveillance caught him accessing a bank customer's account at a walk-up ATM, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
James Lee B. Lavaud, 29, was also charged with grand theft.
At 8:17 a.m. Wednesday, the sheriff's office was contacted regarding Lavaud following customers using the ATM at Bank of America, 11200 State Road 64 E., Bradenton, and using the ATM numerous times. A complainant said a customer had money stolen Tuesday out of the same ATM.
Deputies detained Lavaud after he went to the ATM after two customers. Investigation revealed the card slot of the drive-up ATM had been disabled, which forces customers to use the walk-up ATM.
ATM records and video surveillance show Lavaud was denied access to a customer's account Wednesday morning but was able to access a customer's account and withdraw money Tuesday.
Deputies also found a small amount of marijuana in Lavaud's rental car, according to the sheriff's office.
Booking information for Lavaud was not immediately available on the sheriff's office website.
