Manslaughter charges filed in Sarasota pedestrian death

SARASOTA -- Vincent L. Green, 55, of Sarasota has been charged with DUI manslaughter after authorities say he struck and killed an adult male pedestrian in Sarasota late Saturday.

James Franklin, 58, was crossing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way near Colson Avenue in the area of a crosswalk at 11:58 p.m. when he was hit by a 2005 Ford Taurus driven by Green, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Green, who had been drinking, did not slow or stop his vehicle, the report states.

Franklin was pronounced dead at 1:58 a.m. at Sarasota Memorial on Sunday morning, the report adds.

Neither Green nor his passenger, a 34-year-old Sarasota man, were injured, the report states.
