Boy, 2, drowns in pool at Manatee County home
MANATEE -- A 2-year-old boy drowned Friday in the 9300 block of 69th Avenue East in the Regency Oaks subdivision, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Jayden Morgan-Gutierrez was pronounced dead at a hospital after being removed from a pool. Deputies said the incident happened at 5:15 p.m. Friday. According to a release, Jayden's mother and uncle, who share the same residence, were home with four children. Jayden's mother was watching the children while they played in the living room, and his uncle was in a separate room of the residence at the time.
According to the sheriff's office, the boy's mother took the two youngest children into another room in order to put them down for a nap, leaving Jayden and another child in the living room. When the mother returned to the living room a few minutes later, deputies said Jayden was no longer in the room.
Jayden's mother then stepped outside into the pool area and found the 2-year-old in the pool. Jayden was removed from the pool and was unresponsive, the sheriff's office said. According to a release, EMS responded and he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The incident remains under investigation, deputies said.
