Silver Alert canceled after authorities find Nokomis man, 88

SARASOTA -- A Silver Alert was canceled shortly before 7:30 p.m. Friday for an 88-year-old Nokomis man, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Jan Piet Karssiens, who is hard of hearing and does not carry a cell phone, was located by the Florida Highway Patrol on Interstate 275 at mile marker 30. According to a release, a motorist noticed Karssiens' vehicle after observing one of the interstate message boards broadcasting his vehicle information. Karssiens is back home and safe, deputies said.

Karssiens was last seen around 10:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Waterside Lane in Nokomis.
