Man charged with stealing Infiniti, trying to flee

MANATEE -- A 19-year-old man was charged Thursday with stealing a car and trying to flee from deputies, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Davion Johnson was arrested at 12:35 p.m. Thursday in the 1400 block of Seventh Avenue East in Palmetto. According to a release, deputies observed Johnson driving a stolen vehicle and followed him until he stopped in the 1400 block of Seventh Ave. E., Palmetto. Deputies said Johnson was driving a stolen 2012 Infiniti sedan.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies approached Johnson and attempted to arrest him. Johnson then tried to flee but was apprehended by a K-9. Deputies said Johnson was taken to a hospital for treatment of a dog bite.

Johnson was charged with grand theft auto and resisting arrest, according to the release.
