35-year-old man shot to death in East Sarasota

SARASOTA -- A 35-year-old man was found shot to death in front of a house Sunday after he shot at another person known to law enforcement, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Jason W. Head was found lying in front of a residence in the 300 block of Myakka Road in Sarasota at 8:11 p.m., according to a release. Head had a firearm with him on the ground.

Deputies said a preliminary investigation indicates that Head instigated the shooting by first firing his weapon at another person, who returned fire and struck and killed Head.

Detectives have interviewed the other involved party, who has been cooperative, and they were released. Investigators did not indicate that the person would be charged or what spurred the original shooting from Head.

Deputies say there is no present danger to the public.
