Sarasota sheriff releases new information on bank robbery
SARASOTA -- Detectives with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate an armed robbery that happened on March 15 at a SunTrust Bank in Sarasota.
New information indicates the suspects may have fled in an older model BMW Z3 or Z4 coupe, black in color with black rims, according to a news release Monday. The sheriff's office Monday also released a surveillance video of the robbery.
According to the sheriff's office, the armed robbery took place at approximately 3:48 p.m. March 15 at the SunTrust bank located at 4981 Ringwood Meadow in Sarasota. Deputies said two suspects entered the bank and demanded money before fleeing southbound and entering an unknown vehicle, according to Kaitlyn Johnston, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office. One of the men displayed a handgun in his waistband.
The first suspect is described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds and wearing an olive-colored long-sleeved shirt, jeans and tan baseball cap. The second suspect is also described as a man in his late 20s or early 30s and approximately 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds and wearing a grey and black Columbia jacket and jeans. The sheriff's office said both men wore sunglasses, bandanas, gloves and carried black backpacks.
