Southeast High student charged with possession of marijuana while on school grounds
MANATEE -- A Southeast High School student was arrested at 2:09 p.m. Sunday at his school and charged with possession of 4 grams of marijuana, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
Jose Lopez-Castillo, 18, a member of the school band, was walking back onto school grounds with others after the band performed at a parade on Anna Maria Island.
Deputies reported they suspected Lopez-Castillo had just smoked marijuana. A staff search found a small bag of marijuana on Lopez-Castillo, according to the report.
When questioned, he admitted to possession of the marijuana.
According to the sheriff's office, Lopez-Castillo was suspended from school and will attend a variety of programs upon his return.
Lopez-Castillo was released the same day from Manatee County jail on $500 bond, according to the sheriff's office website.
