Juan Jaimes was charged Monday with driving under the influence and, according to police spokeswoman Genevieve Judge, he is on administrative leave for a previous matter that occurred on Aug. 21. Immediately following the DUI arrest, an internal affairs investigation was started by the police department.
"DUI is a very serious allegation and one that we do not take lightly," Chief Bernadette DiPino said in a written statement. "We are diligently looking into this matter per our policies and we are conducting a thorough internal investigation regarding this."
Jaimes is currently assigned to the Patrol Division and has been a Sarasota police officer since Nov. 30, 2011, according to the release.
