Sarasota Sheriff: Two people arrested on drug charges

SARASOTA -- Two subjects were arrested on drug charges after deputies reportedly found significant quantities of cocaine in their vehicle at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Driver Erickson Dardon, 23, and passenger Lazaro Flores, 17, were arrested in the 5100 block of Ocean Boulevard. According to the release, patrol deputies on foot patrol on Siesta Key approached a vehicle parked in the 5100 block of Beach Road after noticing a strong odor of marijuana.

When deputies made contact, both suspects denied knowledge of any drugs in the car. According to the report, a search of Dardon's vehicle revealed more than 28 grams of cocaine, 8 grams of marijuana, pills and drug paraphernalia.

Dardon was charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession of paraphernalia and marijuana under 20 grams. He was held without bond, the sheriff's office said.

Flores was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and was released to the Department of Juvenile Justice, according to the release.
