School bus driver cited after striking stop sign

MANATEE -- A bus driver was cited Monday for striking a stop sign, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Mary Field, 63, was charged with making an improper right turn. The incident took place at 8:25 a.m. Monday at the intersection of 17th Street West and 2nd Avenue West. According to a release, Field's bus was stopped facing in a southbound direction on 2nd Ave. W. at its intersection with 17th St. W.

FHP troopers said Field then began to make a right turn traveling onto the west shoulder and that's when the right side of the bus struck a stop sign. There were 24 students onboard at the time, according to the release. No injuries were reported.
