Bradenton man, 60, seriously hurt in crash in Bradenton

MANATEE -- A 60-year-old Bradenton man seriously injured in a crash Monday at 53rd Avenue West and Bollettieri Boulevard in Bradenton was cited for failure to stop at a steady red signal after he collided into a bus, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

At 1:10 p.m. Monday, Willian E. Ballard was traveling eastbound in a Ford F150 truck on 53rd Avenue West approaching Bollettieri Boulevard in the right lane. A 59-year-old Wimauma man driving a bus was stopped for a red traffic light at the intersection of 53rd Avenue West, FHP troopers said. According to a report, the bus driver entered the intersection on a green light left turn arrow. That's when FHP troopers said Ballard failed to stop for a steady red signal and crashed into the left side of the bus.

According to the FHP website, troopers were dispatched at 1:14 p.m. Monday to the scene and arrived at 1:25 p.m.

The bus has 57 passengers onboard, according to the report. No injuries were reported for the bus driver or his passengers, but Ballard was seriously injured.
