FHP looking for hit-and-driver that struck Publix semi in Sarasota
SARASOTA -- The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a hit-and-run driver after a black RV hauling a shiny black trailer hit a Freightliner Publix semi at 10:37 a.m. Thursday at mile marker 210 of southbound Interstate 75.
The suspect vehicle was southbound on I-75 in the right-merge lane from the southbound onramp from Fruitville Road. The Publix semi was southbound on I-75 in the right lane.
FHP troopers said the suspect driver was merging to the right lane from the onramp entering the semi's lane of travel. The left side of the suspect vehicle then struck the right rear side of the semi's trailer.
According to the report, the suspect driver then fled southbound on I-75.
Anyone with information on the hit-and-run vehicle or driver is encouraged to call Florida Highway Patrol trooper C. W. Hupchick at 239-938-1800.
