Sarasota police try to identify bicycle thief

SARASOTA -- The Sarasota Police Department is trying to identify the person who was caught on camera stealing a bicycle from inside a parking garage at the Renaissance, 750 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. Police uploaded a short video of the thief taking the bicycle onto YouTube Tuesday.

According to police spokeswoman Genevieve Judge, officers Sunday responded to 750 N. Tamiami Trail in reference to a theft. When officers arrived, the victim told them someone had cut the lock off her bicycle and stole it.

The victim described the bicycle as a light green/teal with white trim, made by Specialized and with the word "Ariel" on the top frame bar, according to a release. The bicycle has a value of approximately $585.
