Man, 28, shot in Palmetto

A 28-year-old man was shot at 1:45 p.m. Thursday in Palmetto, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting took place in the 1500 block of 28th Street Court East in Palmetto. According to the release, a man reported an abandoned shot-up vehicle with blood in it was still running in the middle of the road in the 2900 block of Canal Road.

Responding deputies said they found no victim or suspect. No victim was found, according to the release.

Officials at nearby James Tillman Elementary Magnet School then lifted a lockdown.

Deputies said the shooting victim arrived at Manatee Memorial Hospital and confirmed he was the occupant of the shot-up car found on Canal Road, according to a release.
