Police probe double shooting in North Sarasota

SARASOTA -- A male and female were shot in the leg at approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

SPD spokeswoman Genevieve Judge said officers believe the shooting occurred in the 3000 block of Maple Avenue.

Officers were securing two possible crime scenes soon after the shooting: the 800 block of North Washington Boulevard (U.S. 301) and the 2100-2300 block of Osprey Avenue.

Judge said North Washington Boulevard reopened later and police remain in the 2100 block of Osprey Avenue.

A motive is unknown. Each victim has non-life-threatening injuries and have been transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
