Bradenton man uses mother's walker to defend against knife
MANATEE -- A Bradenton man used his mother's walker to hit a roommate who threatened his life, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
James Carter Jr., 60, was arrested at 2:43 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of 32nd Avenue East.
Carter and the victim share a home with the victim's mother. Deputies reported an argument turned physical when Carter said he was going to kill him, pointed a folding knife at the victim and walked toward him.
Fearing for his mother's and his own life, the victim grabbed his mother's walker and struck Carter with it.
The victim's mother reportedly heard Carter threaten to kill her son, but never saw the knife because the victim stood between her and Carter.
The victim suffered a small cut to his right index finger but told deputies he did not know whether he got it from the knife or by using the walker, according to the report.
Carter was charged with aggravated assault and held in Manatee County jail on $50,000 bond, according to the sheriff's office website.
