Palmetto man sentenced to nine years prison for trafficking heroin, other convictions
BRADENTON -- A Palmetto man was sentenced Tuesday morning to nine years in prison for convictions that include trafficking in heroin.
Naryan Knight, 22, pleaded no contest to all charges as part of a plea agreement. The sentence includes a minimum mandatory three years followed by six years probation.
He was convicted of trafficking in heroin, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, attempting to elude, driving without a valid license, reckless driving causing damage to person or property, possession of marijuana, leaving the scene of a crash, possession of heroin and cocaine with intent to sell, carrying a concealed firearm and possession of a firearm.
In March 2015, Knight was arrested for some of the charges following a traffic stop after he rolled through a steady red light before turning right.
When Knight opened the vehicle door, a deputy reportedly could smell marijuana. A search turned up marijuana, a loaded Taurus .38-caliber revolver, crack cocaine, cocaine and heroin.
In June, Knight was already wanted after failing to appear in court when he was arrested again. A detective received information he was driving to a Motel 6 in East Bradenton and parked in front of the car Knight was driving.
He activated his lights and approached the car but Knight fled the parking lot nearly hitting the detective. The detective pursued Knight until the smoking car stopped in the grassy median off State Road 64 and Interstate 75 with a blown tire from crashing into other vehicles.
After Knight was arrested, the smell of marijuana coming from the car prompted another search, which turned up marijuana, cocaine, heroin and a pink-and-black handgun.
In 2010, Knight was convicted of armed carjacking.
