Skimmer found on Sarasota gas station pump
SARASOTA -- Sarasota police report that a skimming device was found on an Exxon gas station on Tamiami Trail on Thursday morning.
The skimming device was found inside a gas pump at the Exxon at 1841 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, according to a release. Sarasota police officers were called by store employees after a routine check of the pumps showed the red anti-tampering tape was missing.
It's unknown how long the device was on the inside of the pump. Police encourage anyone who recently used the gas station to check their bank statements.
Police also said people should check the red anti-tampering tape when pumping gas, and if it is missing or damaged they should let employees know immediately.
