FHP: Hit-and-run driver victimizes 89-year Sarasota woman

SARASOTA -- The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a hit-and-run driver after a Buick LeSabre was struck in Sarasota at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The incident took place at the intersection of 17th Street and Tarpon Avenue. According to a report, the suspect vehicle was southbound on Tarpon Avenue stopped for the stop sign at the intersection with 17th Street.

The Buick LeSabre, driven by an 89-year-old Sarasota woman with a 48-year-old passenger, was eastbound on 17th Street in the left lane approaching the intersection with Tarpon.

Only Tarpon is controlled by a stop sign at the intersection, FHP troopers said.

The suspect vehicle turned left into the left lane of eastbound 17th Street into the path of the Buick LeSabre, striking its left side, then fled westbound on 17th Street.

The suspect vehicle was described as a newer, black over gold Ford Expedition driven by a male.

No injuries were reported.
