Bicyclist hurt in Bradenton crash issued traffic citation

BRADENTON -- The bicycle who rode his bicycle into the path of a vehicle shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday has been issued a traffic violation, according to the Bradenton Police Department.

Jose Rostro, 59, was cited for running a stop sign, said Bradenton police officer Emily Parsons.

The incident took place at the corner of 24th Avenue West and Fifth Street West in Bradenton.

"It was a stop sign violation, witnesses are saying," Parsons said Tuesday at the scene. "He hit the car."

Paramedics took the man away on a stretcher with minor injuries.

"I didn't see any visible injuries," Parsons added. "He just appears to be in pain."

Nearby resident Jaime Palacios said he didn't see the accident but tried to help the bicyclist before paramedics arrived.

"I thought the car had some mechanical problem," said Palacios, "but when I got closer, I saw the man and the bicycle."

Palacios later helped officers place the bicycle in the trunk of a Bradenton police vehicle.
