Bradenton police: Bicyclist rides into vehicle's path

BRADENTON -- The Bradenton Police Department reported a man rode his bicycle into the path of a vehicle shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday at the corner of 24th Avenue West and Fifth Street West in Bradenton.

"It was a stop sign violation, witnesses are saying," said Bradenton police officer Emily Parsons. "He hit the car."

No citations were issued immiediately.

EMS paramedics took the man away on a stretcher with minor injuries.

"I didn't see any visible injuries," Parsons added. "He just appears to be in pain."

Nearby resident Jaime Palacios said he didn't see the accident but tried to help the bicyclist before paramedics arrived.

"I thought the car had some mechanical problem," the 55-year-old said in Spanish, "but when I got closer, I saw the man and the bicycle."

Palacios later helped officers place the bicycle in the trunk of a Bradenton police vehicle.
