Sheriff: Son, 27, stabs, injures parents in East Manatee
EAST MANATEE -- Residents in the gated community of Greyhawk Landing off State Road 64 in East Manatee expressed shock Sunday over the stabbing of two of their neighbors.
A 66-year-old husband and his 61-year-old wife who live in the neatly manicured 12600 block of Daisy Place were both stabbed multiple times at 4:40 a.m. by their 27-year-old son, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office release.
The victims were in stable condition Sunday afternoon and the son, Jonathan Skarr, was arrested at the scene, ac
cording to the release.
Skarr was in the Manatee County jail Sunday, held without bond on charges of aggravated domestic battery with great bodily harm and disfigurement, according to the sheriff's office website.
Dave Bristow, a sheriff's office spokesman, said the parents were conscious when deputies arrived at their home.
"We were told by the parents that their son does have issues," Bristow said. "The son is in jail. He will make an appearance before a judge on Monday."
Mike Penker and his family live a few houses down from the victims. Penker said he knows the victims.
"It's very shocking," Penker said.
As Penker talked, his son, Nic, 10 and Nic's best friend, CJ Johnson, 11, shot a basketball at a portable basketball hoop in the family's driveway. Penker looked at them and rubbed his chin.
"We have kids 10- to 12-years-old all running around here a hundred times a day," Penker said. "This is a great neighborhood."
