Manatee sheriff: 2 face federal charges of dealing heroin, cocaine

MANATEE -- Two men face federal drug charges for selling large amounts of heroin and cocaine to undercover law enforcement officers, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

A federal grand jury in Tampa indicted John Green, 35, and Joseph Hanley, 33, on charges of conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine, and drug possession, according to the news release.

Multiple purchases were reportedly made from the pair starting in October.

During the investigation, deputies reported approximately 9.4 grams of heroin and 42.8 grams of rock cocaine were purchased.

The indictments were handed up Thursday.

Green was arrested Thursday. Hanley was arrested Friday.

At the time of his arrest, deputies said Green was carrying about 2 grams of heroin.

At the time of Hanley's arrest, he had 13 grams of heroin, according to the sheriff's office.

According to the sheriff's office, Green and Hanley will eventually be transported to Tampa to answer to the federal charges.

In addition to the sheriff's office, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Sarasota Police Department participated in the investigation.
