Manatee High School adds increased police presence after vague threat

Online threat against a 'MHS' was vague

BRADENTON -- After a student pointed out a vague online threat against a "MHS," there was an increased police presence at Manatee High School on Thursday.

Similar to the situation that arose at Lincoln Middle School this week, the online image of a threat does not specify Manatee High School but is a generic threat against "MHS." Officials do not believe the threat was necessarily aimed at Manatee High School.

District spokesman Mike Barber said schools in California and Georgia were on alert because of the threat.

The Manatee High student reported the threat to officials around noon Thursday. The Bradenton Police Department was contacted.

"There was an increased presence," Barber said.

Parents were notified with a phone call after the school day, Barber said.

Manatee High School and the Bradenton Police Department share the cost of two full-time school resource officers at the school.
