Woman pedestrian struck, killed in Sarasota

SARASOTA -- A 59-year-old woman died from the injuries she sustained early Wednesday when a vehicle hit her while she was crossing a street in Sarasota, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

At about 1 a.m., the victim was crossing the 2200 block of North Washington Boulevard, just north of US 301, from east to west when she was hit by a vehicle, according to a news release. Officers who responded to the scene performed CPR on the victim.

The woman was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital to be treated for her critical injuries. She died several hours later from those injuries, police said.

Sarasota police have not released the identity of the victim, as they are still working to notify the next of kin.

The driver is being cooperative with the investigation, police said.

The crash investigation is still ongoing.
